TASTA CEO Mr. Bob Shuma and TASTA support staff Mis Diana Fanuel attended project planning workshop “ACCELERATING VARIETY TURN OVER THROUGH DEMAND LED SEED DELIVERY SYSTEM PROJECT” based in sorghum /Groundnut / Beans. Participated in the meeting included George Bigirwa from Agra Nairobi, Seed companies such as Namburi / Allsem /Rieta and others.

TASTA CEO Mr. Bob Shuma received visitors from TAHA - Jerry Peterson and Wageningen University Dr. Mohammed Hassena, The purpose of this meeting was to establish partnership for an Integrated Seed Sector Development and form a Tanzania- Netherland horticultural Seed platform focusing on production / Import & Export of Horticultural Seeds

Since 2016 – 2022 AGRA supported Policy Reforms in seed industry through TASTA
This included preparation of 2 policy briefs; -
1. Access to land for scaling up seed production in Tanzania
2. The challenge of seed cess in Tanzania: incidence, impact and policy recommendations
Also, preparation and commission of TASTA STRATEGIC PLAN 2022 -2026 and TASTA website: www.tasta.or.tz.
Achievement
1- The Government has allowed seed private sector to enter in long term land “leases” with its Institution like ASA / TARI
2- Seed Cess was removed by Ministry of Finance during July 2022 budget session

Agreed seed companies to ensure
a) Agro dealers are not over pricing Seed due to any reasons
b) TASTA to Request Seed Companies to step up awareness to farmers through Medias etc.
c) TASTA / TOSCI /TAHA / TFRA to host meeting and explore if TFRA system can be practiced by seed industry
d) Seed Companies to inform TASTA secretariat reasons of high prices of seed country wise
e) TASTA to Submit to MoA Minister their findings ASAP
NB: TASTA secretariat received information on high seed price allegations and informed Ministry of Agriculture fact on real situation. Also, actions taken by seed companies to ensure seed availability and farmers are happy.

TASTA CEO Mr. Bob Shuma participate in the Tanzania – Netherlands horticulture seed partnership zoom-meeting. The meeting received feedback on the work done by TASTA and TAHA to remove the requirement of Distinctness, Uniformity and Stability (DUS) test on ornamental flower seed for export.
